environmental policy
*
The methods by which this policy is to be effected are detailed within our environmental manual and the associated working practices derived from it.  It is the responsibility of all members of the company (full and part-time) to act in accordance with these procedures and practices both in action and spirit.

The overall culture should be one of care for the environment and continuous improvement.

Hawthornes is committed to the protection of the environment with a commitment to prevention of pollution and reducing our effect on the environment during all of our business activities including the operation of our administration, reprographic, printing, finishing and despatch facilities.

In order to strive towards meeting this commitment we will:

  • Meet all necessary legislative, regulatory and other requirements which relate to our environmental aspects.

  • Control our environmental impact by the operation of suitable waste minimisation and recycling schemes.

  • Remain informed of environmental issues and in particular those which are of direct relevance to our business.

  • Continue to raise the awareness of all our employees, the effect of their actions on and their responsibility to the environment; by communication, discussion and training.

  • Manage our building and grounds in an environmentally sensitive manner.

  • Utilise wherever practicable, optimal environmental practices when planning new and developing existing operations.

  • Operate a thoughtful purchasing policy by selecting wherever practical, materials and services which lessen damage to the environment.

  • Set environmental objectives and targets based on continual improvement, monitor the results and review these on a regular basis.

  • Establish and maintain an environmental management system, which continually reduces waste, effluent, emissions and the use of scarce resources.
