Helping Bluecoat School with a Special Project
*

Passing on Press

The Nottinghamshire Education Business Alliance (NEBA), working closely with the Print Media and Graphics Network, had the vision to build positive relationships between schools and the print industry to the benefit of all concerned.

Hawthornes made a commitment with Bluecoat School to take part in a project to design, produce and market a printed product with a £5 retail value. The children chose to design and produce a variety of 4 colour greetings cards.

Five students from Bluecoat School offered their designs for review. Lawrence Kelsey (Hawthornes Production Manager) helped the students to format the digital files for the approved designs. Elizabeth Abrahams (Hawthornes Account Executive) and Steve Denman (Hawthornes Pre-Press Manager) discussed, explained and provided a practical insight to the administration and reproduction process during two student visits.

Hawthornes then provided the students with digital Cromalins and pdfs to involve other students at Bluecoat School in briefing meetings, co-ordinated by their teacher James Tinney. The final printed product was distributed at an industry conference, supported by a presentation by the students. The whole exercise provided a showcase exhibition for the print industry and demonstrated our commitment to Print Education in Nottinghamshire.

We thoroughly enjoyed working with Bluecoat School and look forward to helping young people with an interest in the Printing Industry again in the future.
